Reasons to study Sport BTEC Level 3


The BTEC Diploma is an academic, practical, and vocational course that helps you learn all about the sports industry from multiple occupational perspectives.

We will be exploring this rapidly growing industry from multiple industry dimensions, from coaching to management. The flexibility of this course allows us to select the most relevant and interesting units for our learners to explore.

Learners will develop their academic understanding of the sports industry. In addition, augment your vocational skills through assisting PE teachers and coaches in lesson support, local primary school sport or extra-curricular clubs. Moreover, you will develop your sporting performance through individualised training programmes and expand your personal skills through sports leadership and a range of events and trips.

Skill Acquisition in Sport.

There will also be some optional units that the students will need to complete.
The teacher will decide which optional units to include based on the interests of the pupils.

Assessment Outline


There are 3 potential pathways for Sport BTEC Level 3, which will influence how students are assessed.

BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate:
Equivalent to 1 A Level, 4 units of study of which 3 are mandatory and 2 are external.
Mandatory content (83%). External assessment (67%).

BTEC Level 3 National Diploma:
Equivalent to 2 A Levels, 9 units of study of which 6 are mandatory and 3 are external.
Mandatory content (75%). External assessment (45%).

BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma:
Equivalent to 3 A Levels, 14 units of study of which 10 are mandatory and 4 are external.
Mandatory content (78%). External assessment (42%).
