Examination Results and Ofsted

St Oscar Romero is an academic and high-performing 11-18 school. For the last two years, Romero’s has been the highest performing school in West Sussex for Progress 8, which measures the overall performance of a school. In 2022-2023, 86% of our students passed both English and Maths, this is the highest in West Sussex. Record numbers of students achieve straight Grades 7, 8 and 9’s, equivalent to A*/A grades, in all subjects. The same high expectations, rigor and achievement strategies will be applied to our post-16 provision, and we are confident that GCSE success will be replicated at A Level. In May 2023, Ofsted carried out an ungraded inspection of the school. The report is overwhelmingly positive about the quality of education our students receive and concluded: “There is enough evidence of improved performance to suggest that the school could be judged outstanding if we were to carry out a Section 5 inspection now.” The report continues: “Pupils thrive at this highly aspirational school. It is both welcoming and ambitious” Other observations include: “Pupils follow an ambitious curriculum” and “Personal Development is superb”, stating “Pupils benefit from an amazing array of interesting and exciting experiences offered through extra-curricular clubs.”
